Thailand has started deporting thousands of Hmong refugees to Laos.
The Thai government says they are illegal migrants, but the refugees say they fled political persecution. Human Rights groups say they have major concerns for their safety in the communist country.
Al Jazeera's Hannah Belcher travelled to Laos to inspect the conditions of Hmong who have just returned.

Here I go...first the Hmong people should be treated humanly wherever they live weather in Laos, Thailand or the US. Second, it does not seem to me that the those people that were leaving Thailand were leaving on their free will. To be honest, I believe there is little we can do to help this situation (unless we were a politician.) But what we can do is...be united together and make GOOD choices and be a good example to others instead having hatred. An eye for an eye makes the world blind.

I am a Hmong and what I have to say is a fact. Those remain Hmong wanted to come to the U.S. and I think they have the right to since they have helped the U.s. killed their own in the past which make them untrustworthy. But I think demonizing their own people back in Laos as way to come to the U.S. is the worst idea.Many Hmong were forgiven by the Laotian government, but when they heard that the U.S. is going toallow some Hmong to come to the U.S.,many Hmong left their homes and become refugees.

Vang Pao and other thugs who aided the thieves in the U.S. don't want the war to end and wounds to heal. Many Vang Pao supporters wanted the remained Hmong to die and suffered so that they can feel needed and powerful. I think it is time we focus on the future instead of the past. Not all Hmong sided with the U.S. and those that fought for their country are living with full citizenship and benefits in Laos.

ploverwi has a point, before any judgement is made, i think hmong youth should visit laos, before they start with all the hatred words, i've been there a few times, lets just say there are two sides to the story, go and visit "white water villiage" the situation is like katrina, those camps that remianed in thailand couldn't possibly house all the hmong from laos that were trying to get a free pass to the US, so the lao hmong set up camp along the streets. Lao and hmong get along fine in laos.

i've been to and seen the new villages that the lao gov't has set up for the returning hmong, the lao gov't has welcomed them back home with open arms, even given them land to farm, start focusing on the positives the lao gov't has done in the past few months, instead of the negatives of the past, Hmong have a good life in Laos along with the Lao, hell we're even on their money, those who choose to fight and bring war are the ones persucuted. Please learn TRUTH before yelling hate.
