I have no sympathy. The average writer makes over $200k a year. The revenue the studios generate isn't going directly into the pockets of the CEOs. It's being used to fund crappy tv shows and crappy movies written by crappy writers so that maybe we'll find one or two that will be good.

It seems as if you aren't exactly seeing the entire picture here. Basically, you are taking the side of the large corporation over the people who keep it going.
And where are you getting your figure of $200k a year? If that is true, I think they would have been able to make a better looking video.
The $200k/year ... ( 10 months ago by uwguiness)
The $200k/year figure comes from a writers' editorial during Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live a couple of weeks ago. Since they were advocating for writers, I'll assume that figure is correct, if not low. Not to mention that online revenue is only going to come from the highest-quality shows, so it'll be the highest-paid writers that will reap most of the benefit.

i think the writers are well off and everything, but ourcountry is right. we have intellectual property laws for a reason, to protect writers and other artists. if companies like viacom, disney, ge, news corp, etc. don't want to give the writers the percentage they deserve, then the writers have every right to stop producing content.

I live in a very far away country, so there is no direct benefit for you there, but I support the writers strike totally. I know that many people are necessary to make a good show, but writers do make the main stuff - the words which reach us and are the body of this work. It takes a company to sell it, but firstly there has to be something to sell. I think this strike was aimed at showing exactly this - who the creator of the project is.

Sumner Redstone is probably the most disgusting human being that exists in this planet.
