Cash's version was so far inferior to the original that it makes me sick listening to it. Trent was just being nice. The fact that Cash's version wasn't that much different, was only different in ways that made it crappier, and changed the most imporant lyric made his suck. Not to mention that it's an extremely personal song that, while Cash was a drug addict, he cannot understand or try to "own" it.
