Comparing music like that to American idol IS a joke.
They're not making music anymore coz the artist thought he need to express that but coz some producer thinks it's what we want to hear. So now all music is about getting laid and not about deeper stuff that really moves people. Ugly can be beautiful too, sadness is part of life and there's plenty of pain to go around.
