Automobile emissions contribute 1/3 of the co2 attributed to climate change, and contribute carcinogenic/toxic particulates into the air, water and food stream. Automobile dependency contributes to the rising diabetes rate and other sedentary lifestyle ailments. Automobile-centric development of towns and roads contributes to an anti-social, alienating, and ego-stoking (road rage) way for travelers to live their lives. Automobile domination of our roads feeds power to associated corporations and helps make the likes of Iraq look worth a slaughter for their energy resources.
A fun and inexpensive alternative is the bicycle. Engage your streets, feel the wind, say hi to neighbors, flow with traffic less harmfully, get stronger by moving your body in a way that doesn't emit additional carbon dioxide and particulates into our air and water.
Every moment we are creating a future world. Every month, in cities around the world, a mass of motor-less travelers celebrates taking space from automobile domination on their streets in a passionate maraud known as Critical Mass.
DC Critical Mass meets on the first Friday of every month in Dupont Circle at 6pm.
July 2008's Critical Mass landed on July 4th, inspiring a festive expression of independence from fuel and inspiring the color, glitter and flow of Glamarchists.
