whats the devil note? or is it called trinote?
the trinote or ...( 2 months ago by joelpizzaguy)
the trinote or augmented forth (or diminished fifth) is the third note of the main riff. he plays F# - F# (one eight below) - C (this C is the trinote, or the devil's note) it is called the devil's note, because back then when the chorus of the churches sang, they would have two or tri voices. One voice with the tone, one voice with it's third and one with it's fifth. They only knew the C major scale. With all notes they sound fine, but when they get to B it gets tricky... (continue)

Because in the C major scale, the fifth of B is F, which is B's Trinote. Follow this: B C D E F 1 2 3 4 5 but the natural fifth from B is F#. The sound of a trinote is very dissonant, so it get's "ugly". And back then the music was made to God, no to people. So it was called the devil's note. with that they created the other scales, with Sharp notes. That's the story my music teacher told me... (it's not chorus, it's choir... i've written it wrong)

It's called a tritone, not a trinote. Just a half step higher than a Perfect 4th or a half step lower than a Perfect 5th (hence the names Augmented 4th and diminished 5th). Same interval used in the intro to Purple Haze.
