Bruce of course forgot to mention that Guthrie wrote this song in the middle of a freaking Depression and UNEMPLOYMENT was about 25 percent.
Steel worker jobs left because of the greed of the union workers resulted in the complete and total destruction of a once great industry.

lol, ur kidding right? It wasnt the greed of union workers, they just wanted a fair living wage. It was the greed of investors and CEO's that outsourced most of our manufacturing base to China and other nations just to get a higher margin. And ur right it wasnt just the GOP, it was all the selfish SOBs in this country, who in my opinion should be lined up and shot for treason.They took the American dream and outsourced that to China too, leaving this country a hollow shell of its former glory.

Sure, if you want to call working your a** off in environment at 110+ degrees Fahrenheit for 8+ hours a day and wanting to make $35000/year with some health coverage greed.
Companies are not obligated to agree to the union contracts either. It was the greed of the companies to exploit workers in other countries by paying them the bare minimum coupled with the decline of easy to mine/smelt metals in the U.S. that caused job losses. And probably a little increase in mechanization too.

America was founded to get away from a lords and commoner society. Nobody wants to redistrute the weath punitively, simply distribute some tax dollars to give oppurtunity to those with less. And you know what, that poor 6 year old boy who gets free day care, tutoring, and positive after school programs today, may end up as an astronaut you see on TV in 20 years, instead of the guy carjacking you in ten. All men created equal does not mean we need an end of wealth, just an end of poverty.

Yeah we have a real great medical system now. My mom kept having strokes before she died she went to the hospital 5 times in two yrs and they sent her the medicare bills which she threw them away since she was fully covered. But after she died the bills were fowarded to me and I finally saw how broke the system is. The hospital billed medicare 3, 4, sometimes even 5 times for the same procedure and they added $300.00 consultation fees for doctors that just popped in and looked at her chart.

And u dont want to know how much they charged for 2 aspirin. We need a system that has some kind of control over whats paid rather than the all or nothing system we have now. Because its unregulated they even steal from us taxpayers through medicare the part that should be regulated and isnt. Im sure they justify it by saying they help people with no insurance, so guess what dude, we already are paying for socialized medicine its just that u dont know it and ur paying more than u should for it.

Bruce Springsteen did say that this song was written by Woody Guthrie, it is right in the beginning of this video. I also have this song from his 75-85 collection and it is the same version and he does mention that Guthrie wrote it. Springsteen says Guthrie wrote it as an answer to Irving Berlin's God Bless America and "This Land is Your Land" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
