dont know its lacking something, obviously, he can sing his ass off, it sounds wimpy, not jesus like, maybe its the way he phrase's the lyrics. GEOFF TATE, Would have ate this song up in his Prime, he sounded like a man , when he screamed. Tate also had the Passion to nail it.

This is unhuman singing and stage control! This song has always given me the shivers but this is by far the best performance of if I've ever seen (and I've seen many!)! I know I'll get a lot of crap by sayng this but... Steve Balsamo is my favorite Jesus ever! He owns even Ted Neeley!

Sorry if this upsets you but everybody is not good. There are some performances better than others. When someone says who is best, it is of course in their opinion and they are allowed to say so as a comment. And in my opinion, Steve Balsamo gives the best performance of this. You may not agree and that's your opinion. You cannot stop people giving their opinion on here. That is why we have comments!

I own the '96 London version with Steve Balsamo.
And let me just say.
He is incredible.
And his voice in The Last Supper battling with Zubin Varla, the man who played Judas, is simply...amazing.
If you do not own it, buy it.
Trust me. You will not be disappointed.

I did bought the '96 London cast version after seeing this performance here several months ago. I completely agree and love it. But I always disappointed in Maria Magdalene choice and it didn 't change for the 96 London cast - very flat and uninspiring :)

Bravo! Magnifiq! Really intense and moving. Almost live up to the song. But this song really belongs to Ted Neely & Ian Gillan. Definitely this is the best effort for an outsider. I really love it! Well done!

No DVD but soundtrack of 1996 West end version of the show has Steve playing the part of JC and this is on it. Fantastic CD of the show.
He has also recorded A solo album and two albums with his band The Storys.
