Come on now. Who doesn't remember David Bowie? One of the best male solo artists of the 80's. I don't remember watching this video when I was a kid but maybe that's partly due to the fact that I was just a kid and couldn't watch MTV or VH1.

I was being fascetious but to get annoyed at a video. It pretty clear Bowie isn't really playing it. It's only for the vid effect. Plus this is the 7' single versio. The 12' is on album cd. I think the two of them fell out over who had the best hairdo. And to be honest most of joe public wouldn't hvae a clue who SRV is. Those that do mostly came to their attention trhough Bowie.

My best interpretation? It's about rejecting a workaday life fueled by aspirations to someone else's standards. The young aboriginal man and woman are laborers in a society in which they have no real stake; the red shoes symbolize material and social aspirations which don't make sense for them. -RC =^[.]^=

I'm surprised there are people who haven't heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan. But everyone has their tastes and favorite musicians. Doing the solo for this song was actually Stevie's big break into the industry. He went on to basically bring back the blues in a time when music was dominated by synth-pop. Any rock fan will tell you he's one of the greatest guitarists to ever play, and one of the greatest blues-men. He died in 1990. RIP

While I agree that Stevie Ray was a big deal, he WASN'T EVEN CLOSE to Bowie. Couldn't hold a candle to Bowie's greatness, pure and simple.

I respect your opinion, but SRV had a more important role. SRV made the blues-which at the time was a dying genre- cool again. He brought it back to the masses with flavor and style. While Bowie is good, he could even touch SRV's guitar play. SRV is in the top 5 best guitarist of all-time.

I respect your opinion too but I think you must be off your gourd mate if you think that SRV had had a bigger impact on music than DB. Seriously? I can see that snapshot impact in the 80s on blues, but DB has been laying the yardsticks down for 40 years over all sorts of genres. Maybe you think of arguing for Bowie as a guitar player, which I certainly wouldn't! He was crap really, but a hell of a songwriter and a hell of a performer and a hell of forward-thinking artist.
