I beg to differ, my good man. You see, Ritchie Blackmore, of Deep Purple fame, was using all sorts of strange modes and Harmonic Scales. And, that was in the late 60's and early 70's. However, I happen to agree with you all that he was, in deed, before his time. He merged classical scales with a hendrix feel.

I agree that Ritchie Blackmore may have been the 1st. He liked to use the Hungarian Minor, basically the 5th mode of the Harmonic mMinor scale and get some really cool dramatic runs. I would say the Uli Roth took it even farther than Ritchie, although I would agree Ritchie was 1st.
