Whose Cops?
Uploaded by: ShelltoHell
Video Description:
County Mayo, Ireland.
Despite the best efforts of a large force of police officers from the Garda Siochána, a truck carrying construction materials is seen here being prevented from entering the site where Shell are trying to build a huge polluting gas refinery on the west coast of Ireland against the wishes of the people. The scheme involves a high pressure pipeline snaking across a marshy landscape, in an area prone to landslides and forest fires.
Shell are trying to construct the pipeline/refinery before they have planning permission or a licence to operate them, and recent polls show the majority of people in Ireland believe that they should refine the gas offshore, they way it is done all around the world.
Nevertheless the Irish government, plagued by allegations of corruption, continues to support Shell. Their partners in the project include US company Marathon Oil, and the Norwegian State Company STATOIL. Ironically, a scheme like this would not be allowed in Norway.
The Irish government, who won't gain a penny for the country from the deal they negotiated with Shell, continue to send in police from Rosscommon, Galway, Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal and other parts of Ireland as well as Mayo, to try to help Shell get the refinery built.
Ministers from the Green Party have betrayed their voters by supporting Shell, even though they said they were against the project before the recent elections.
NOTE: Shell claimed the truck in this video was not trying to get to the construction site but was simply passing by. However, after years of lies, no one in Ireland believes the nonsense they come up with anymore.
