Video Description:
This is the first episode, "The Undefeated", of the classic TV series, Colditz, which originally aired from 1972-1974. Colditz was a BBC & Universal Studios joint venture, and had a star-cast of Robert Wagner, David McCallum, Edward Hardwicke, et al. Superb drama full of suspense. Based on the stories of actual WW2 allied PoWs and escape-attempts from Colditz castle. This series has never been released on DVD or VHS, but I have all 28 episodes on DVD-R and DVD+R formats recorded from UK Gold ;). The castle has been stonecleaned since this series was made and been converted into a youth hostel. The funny thing I remember from when this series was shown was when my younger brother who was only two years old at the time saw the swastika flag on the screen at the start of the credits and pointed at it and said "plane". He'd seen the swastika on the tails of some of my Airfix planes.

I went to Colditz in 1994 and it was still a hospital in part with the rest lying empty. There was a small museum and a guided tour available. It was a very moving experience...because of the history of it - but also because it brought back the memories of this fantastic television drama.

Thanks for posting. This is the only episode I never managed to catch on TV here in Canada.
It is surprisingly weak compared to the later episodes when the more interesting characters of the Kommandant (Bernard Hepton), the SBO (Jack Hedley) and Hauptman Ullman (Hans Meyer). Of course David McCallum and Robert Wagner were excellent too.
Why on earth hasn't the BBC put this out on DVD? Is it political correctness or just stupidity?
