| Am I the only one that isn't hysterical about Sanchez's playing?. He's great offcourse. But it seems to me that his fast ostinato based playing/soloing becomes a sort of 'trick' (by lack of a better word) to impress listeners. Any drummer knows the hard part is letting the ostinato go and still play with energie, let space be music too. Time-stretching and independance in a true sense. Check people like Brian Blade and Ari Hoenig. Their musical expression touches me on a far more personal level. |

| i agree. i've seen sanchez and blade a couple times each and, while sanchez is always excellent, blade is simply transcendent. i'm not a drummer, but in my mind nobody tops him. sanchez sounds like three people at once; blade sounds like one guy with three times the thoughtfulness and exuberance of the average drummer. |
