Slaves did not have ... ( 4 months ago by amshul)
Slaves did not have the mentality of children! They had the mentality of the age that they were. Just because you learn rules for grammar and how to add and multiply does not make you more of an adult. One becomes an adult by experience and through life.

Heres my view ont he movie,
I think its racist becuase uncle herman couldn;t even go to premiers after winning awards which disgusts me.
Theres a part in the moview where uncle herman is called a niggar by one of those guys on horses.
When uncle herman sees two kids fighting, he tries to break it up and gets blamed for it. Additionally he was called a mindless coffee bean (Coffee is black and has no mind).
Finally theres a part in the movie where uncls asks for a bath. He was refused becuase..

What a tragic end to a talented actor's life. I got a short clip of Bobby in 'The Window' (1949).
But that's how ... ( 4 months ago by superauctionstar)
But that's how things were here in the South for blacks during times of slavery. The hard times for them lasted until the Civil Rights movement. The movie depicted just that. So what do you want for today's society to do? Hide history and pretend it never happened? Also you need to looks at this movie within the context of its time. Blacks were highly segregated here in the South when the movie was made (1946). This is exactly why I have a problem with liberals....
The story takes ... ( 4 months ago by bylot2007)
The story takes actually place after the U.S. Civil War, during the period known as, "Reconstruction". That's why it was providently released as "Song Of The South", in lieu of its original working title "Uncle Remus". By justifying it as: "It was just like that", you also have to judge the original authror Joel Chandler Harris, since "Uncle Remus" is no creaton of Disney, but of him. Disney grew up with those stories and simply put them into this movie without any bad ulterior motive.
Exactly. And that ... ( 4 months ago by superauctionstar)
Exactly. And that was my point. And I doubt Chandler Harris had bad ulterior motives in his story. The movie is not racist at all. By claiming this movie has racist content, liberals are just making a fool of themselves.
On the contrary: ... ( 4 months ago by bylot2007)
On the contrary: Watching especially the scenes with Uncle Remus and Miss Doshy, you can see how respectful Miss Doshy is treating old Uncle Remus, almost friendly, chummy. Harris (1848-1908), born of poor parents, wrote his first book on Uncle Remus in 1880, so twenty-five years after the Civil War and thus, definitely without any racist background. According to the Wikipedia, he, as a newspaper apprentice, heard the stories on a plantation himself, ...
... and later wrote ... ( 4 months ago by bylot2007)
... and later wrote them down. So only the background story was his own creation. If it's discussed now as racist, this is in my opinion just a matter of the spirit of the ages. Since its premiere it was four times successfully re-released despite all of that racist crap, and likely it will appear on DVD in late 2008 or early 2009, due to a steady request for it.
So let protest who wants and simply enjoy the movie. Btw: James Baskett was the first black actor ever to win an Oscar.

No, films can't be banned in the United States. Read The Constitution. They can be censored for television on public airwaves, or a station may choose not to play this film however.
I don't want to ... ( 3 months ago by bylot2007)
I don't want to appear moralizing, but I just removed a comment advising folks to illegally download this movie from torrent websites.
Although I'm already possessing a great deal of material on Bobby's life and career, not always collected by conventional ways, I would never justify or even advise this as the normal or best way to do.
BTW: I consider all my Disney-clips still tacitly tolerated, since the Disney Studios are extremely nit-pick, when it concerns their finacial interests.
I am some one whos ... ( 3 months ago by Hihowyouare)
I am some one whos old enough to remember the Civil Rights movement and before it. It was'nt that bad for blacks and many blacks even wanted to stay segregated. As some one that can clearly remember the civil rights movement of the south it was communist supported.
The only people who will say it was bad are politicains,PCorrect,Black nationalist and liberal communist from the north.

Disney doesn't sell it in the US. At least, I don't think they do.

Its never "that bad" if you part of the group doing the lynching. Or is this post some racist internet troll.
Array ( 3 months ago by bylot2007)
Folks,
I said it several times before, so I will say it only once again.
These clips are meant as samples to show Bobby's great acting talent and not as just another platform for political discussions and intolerance.
If this doesn't stop, I will disable the comment option costantly.
If don't have to say anything about the movie
and/or the actors - simply shut up.
Sorry, to say it this way now, but it seems to be the only working way.

hey thats MAMMY from GONE WITH THE WIND!!!
why is Gone with the Wind not banned (has slaves in it) but Song of the South is banned by Disney?
Gone with the Wind is such a classic masterpiece, no way in hell we allow anyone to ban it. We should behave the same way for this movie!
oh, and MAMMY from ... ( 3 months ago by bio2020)
oh, and MAMMY from 'Gone With the Wind' 1939 was not allowed at the Atlanta premiere either. Clark Gable was so mad, he threatened to boycott the event but Mammy (forgot her name) convinced him to go and not cause any trouble.
So it's not the first time. Song of the South is not a racist movie.
