Probably you´re watching too much Jackie Chan´s movies...
They´re not supposed to do flying kicks, wheelspin, or even a hadouken during a real kumite.
One of the dozens techniques in a full contact martial art is the great endurance, the power of will to stay fighting till the end.
Osu.

Osu!
No, I do not judge the fight on the basis of the movies you mentioned.
I judge them on the experience of my own and the lot of competion I attended and watched in Kyokushin.
It is true that I have never participated in a world championship, "only" on European Championship and finished in the best 8.
So I know what does it take to kick an ushiro mawashi, how if feels to make a knockdown with it and of course have suffered such kicks as well.

To continue my comment on Chargevandro:
So I ment that the fight was an average fight in KYOKUSHIN terms.
You are right in saying that the fighters have to have great endurance. I saw a lot of fights when a fighters started very dinamically and after a minute or two he finished with his power...
So congratulation to the fighters, I do not want to critise their result.
But let me have my own opinion!
OSU

Got it, Peter!!
I thought you were saying something like they don´t deserve the title gave to them.
Sorry if my comment sounded a little sharpen,it´s not my intention as well.

I do the shotokan karate kumite and i think that this looks like some slow s***. It could be strong, but our punches and kicks are also strong and 5000 times faster. Maybe I´m not right, but this is my oppinion.

you guys are not appreciating the brazilian fully, he has numbing power in his punches and kicks. He is a freak with the same gift of power that george formeman had in boxing. What ever he lands, even when it looks like a weak tap, is devastating.

The tru is Jan had damaged his leg from fights before. When he started this fight he had to go over huge pain, he almoust couldn´t stay on his leg and Texeira took advantage of it ...
You guys werent ... ( 7 months ago by Akiuki)
You guys werent there, the Hova-Soukup fight left Jan limping, he had to fight Nakahara,Tanaka and he wasnt Brazilian, Nippon, or Russian, so he had nothing going for him point wise. Teixeiras only tough fight was Darmen and maybe Murata. The third place fight was MUCH better, and the Navarro-Tanaka fight was a highlight of the taikai so dont judge, this was their 8th fight in 3 days

Hi,
I think shotokan is not full contact, right???
If I'm right, then you can't compare these two totally diffrent karate styles.
yeah that´s true, ... ( 7 months ago by jirimotejl)
yeah that´s true, but I think that they can be compared. It can hurt maybe. However the stats of the people can be compared too. I can be strong without punching my opponent. Okay let´s stop with these topics. Karate and its all styles is the best sport in the world. Everyone keep doing it.:-D

I'm a karate man ... ( 6 months ago by Gauntlets)
I'm a karate man myself, but I kinda disagree. There are a lot of fight sports out there from the boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, etc. I believe that the best style or sport is defined by the fighter himself.
This was a good ... ( 6 months ago by Gauntlets)
This was a good fight. However, in my opinion, it seems dull without punches being allowed 2 the face. So my question is, to anyone interested, are there any known kyokushin organizations that allow face punches? I heard of at least one.

well this is a open tournament so why is there no shotokan fighters in it?
Probably b'cuz few ... ( 6 months ago by Gauntlets)
Probably b'cuz few shotokan fighters have the balls 2 compete in one. There are fighters in MMA that are karate men, some of which are very successful. Lyoto Machida is a shotokan fighter, though one wouldn't really tell. Georges St. Pierre is kyokushin. Semmy Schilt is ashihara, though most thought he was a pancrase stylist. I bet these guys would if permitted.
But Semmy Schilt's ... ( 6 months ago by supperaadet)
But Semmy Schilt's style is an offspring from Kyokushinkai Karate

Ashihara is a kyokushin offshoot. I'm pretty sure I said so.

Kyokushin kai doesnt punch the face in full contact competitions but they are still the only ones that dont wear gloves and kyokushin kai karate ka will never back down from any fight with anyone

K-1 originted when seidokaikan karate split their kickboxing rules challenge events out from the organization to work as a independent kickboxing promotion company.
Even though it went independent, K-1 is still strongly influenced by the seidokaikan leaders.
The Seidokaikan founder broke out of kyokushin in 1979, together with the founder of ashihara karate, but after only a few months they parted ways and seidokaikan was born.

one organization of kyokushin has started to allow face punches with thin MMA type gloves. Kyokushin-kan headed By Royama.
They do it side-by-side with the traditional knockdown rule competitions.
But they only started last year, so its still new.
Others do kickboxing style training to get the facepunches. Like the IKO1 organization headed by Matsui, who has its Ichigeki kickboxing gym/tournaments .
