Snookers a harder game to play and requires more skill
The pocket on a pool table is about a foot wide

if you play snooker and dont find it particularly difficult, you must be very gifted and should consider playing professionally.
it takes some degree of skill to run a rack of 9 ball, but in my opinion, it would take more skill to knock in a long red, get on the black, and stay amoungst the balls to get a 60+ break in snooker.
playing safties in 9 ball is more difficult than people may think

snooker geek lol! i play snooker and pool as well ! the hardest thing about 9 ball is positioning as the cloths are very fast but lets face it you dont have to be ronnie osullivan to pot any ball on the table lol! i played an exibition game against steve mizerak ( who was world champ at the time! ) on an 8 ball table and he couldnt pot a ball lol ! pockets were too small a think! beat him 3 - 0 ! point made i think eh !!!

pool is easy compared to snooker.I play snooker fairly well(79 highest break) and playing pool is childs play compared to snooker. like pitch n putt versus golf!

i dont think most of them take it too seriously to be honest. in the 2000 st andrews cup, in white/davis vs higgins/hendry, white potted two balls at once accidently, apologised to his opponents then muttered to himself, 'silly game!' and all through that match, that game wasnt taken too seriously
i believe, though that snooker players arent as accustom to the bigger balls in pool, faster cloth, and perhaps larger pockets which are easier to cheat. good point though, +1 on your comment :)

alright, i know i'm going to hear it but lets put this to rest. why do snooker players, who come here to play championship pool are not so sucessful? because in snooker there are shots and position plays that one just does'nt attempt. if you watch a great snooker player, the patterns are very basic even compared to US straight pool. Kicking and breaking, snooker players don't know this game, 9ball players do. the stroke,it may be good for pocketing small little snooker balls, but bad for 9ball.

continued... they made the pockets and shelves easier on snooker tables a little while ago, and with those small, light little balls, snooker is not as hard as it used to be. in th US Open and other 9ball tournaments, the pockets get smaller each year, and with a bigger heavier ball, pocketing gets harder. even one pocket on a Diamond table is tough, believe me. BTW, i heard Reyes will play ANYONE at snooker, 3 cushion, Pyramids and pool for the cash.
not all snooker ... ( 2 months ago by andyhounslow)
not all snooker players who have tried championship pool have been failures. i believe your world 9 ball champion is a failed snooker player. and tony drago practically won europe the mosconi cup. steve davis gives a pretty good account of himself whenever he plays, as does fabio patroni. in snooker, some shots arent attempted, yes, because the shot is usually a low percentage one. if the player tries to take it on and misses, he'll leave his opponent in, simply. you cant take on a ... ( 2 months ago by andyhounslow)
you cant take on a ball jammed up against a rail/cushion, and still pot it in snooker, unlike in pool, so you simply wouldnt play it. as for what you said about patterns, the reason they look so 'basic' to you is because, as you said, the player is a great one. believe me, patterns, or break building, is anything but basic! snooker table pockets have actually gotten smaller btw, not bigger. how did you summise that they have gotten bigger?
the pockets are ... ( 2 months ago by lemonite1)
the pockets are bigger compared to the pockets of the late 80's. there was a steep decline in snooker market with bar boxes becoming more popular. now, anyone can pot balls with ease. snooker responded by making the pockets bigger. an announcer, while commentating on a snooker tournament says this several times. i dont know who the players were because, being american,i did'nt recognize them. also, the snooker table at my pool hall is a newer Riley and its pockets, while small are cut bigger.
continued... this ... ( 2 months ago by lemonite1)
continued... this fact was reiterated by a group of snooker players there. the rails are cut differently as well. a ball resting against a cushion, sits higher than an on an older snooker table. this, combined with the fact that snooker cloth and more level, newer tables, have changed to adopt pool characteristics.
i see. well thats ... ( 2 months ago by andyhounslow)
i see. well thats strange, as i've heard several times that they have been made smaller since the late 80s. earlier on television today, john parrott and steve davis, two players who were around in the 80s and still play today, reiterated that. unfortunately i couldnt find a text source on this, but will keep looking when i get more time to do so.
thanks for the reply

It's an open tournament. If you can pay the entry fee, then you can play first-round. There are no buy-ins for later rounds (I think, anyway.).
It's double-elimination, I believe.

common sence says stroke mechanics are a myth. why do you think the breaks so called stroke, and stance teachings, and is the best? you dont think with you feet or your arms. if so your thinking backwards. stroke and stance is a myth, and that is holding many players back in learning. you think the right thoughts about the game= your body and arm will automitaclly follow! thats why eryes see's the ball so well, and feels the position to the next ball so well.pool is very simple, and common sence
