Joy Division was fundamental in the devlopment of Post Punk/New Wave. If Ian didn't commit suicide, Joy Division would have been a bigger success than the Smiths. It's hard to compare them to any modern bands as they were pioneers at the time. Bringing a new well thought out lyrical underground rock style to the forefront.

That's fine, that's your opinion. I quite like Killers as they are more interesting than most bands around at the moment, but do you not realise that Ian Curtis is the reason bands like Killers exist. No, he was not the greatest singer in the world - he didn't need to be, his presence and unique character made up for that. Killers are good, but JD and in particular Ian, were nothing short of groundbreaking, that is why bands with taste like Killers cover their songs.
