Michael Jordan 1996: 53 pts Vs. Grant Hill & Pistons

Uploaded by: hoopsencyclopedia
Video Description:
Grant Hill was the best player this side of MJ for a moment. When MJ retired the first time, Hill was picked to carry the torch. Of course this was unfair but Hill was unbelievable before he went down with the ankle injury. He was posting Lebron type numbers in 2000 while playing better defense. His complete game and unselfishness assured that he would be an all-time great.
MJ, however, came back from retirement and had to put his foot down. Shooting an illegal 78% in this game, MJ would shoot 14-16 in the second half and 21-28 overall for 53 points. Hill struggled at 5-16 for 13 on the other end. MJ was in his super-zone and his jumper was flowing like water. His fadeaway was picture perfect. The older and wiser 33-year-old MJ even enjoyed his own brilliance with laughter instead of wearing his traditional raging-fury-scowl.
Of course the side note was that MJ's nemesis Dumars was also on Hill's team. But, that stayed as a side note here.
It's painful to see Hill here before he went down in his prime because of what could have been. We're glad that he's back and doing well now but his best years have been taken away from us and that's invaluable. Thankfully, MJ carried his own torch.

A straight killer? Right.
Maybe during the regular season and most of the playoffs against teams that can't defend. But when it came down to it in the Finals, bar Game 3, Kobe struggled to establish himself yet AGAIN in a Finals series.

People talk about Kobe being compared to greats. But Allen Iverson to me has had a more impressive career than Kobe. If you do your research. I mean Kobe hasn't had to deal with double or triple teams when playing with Shaq dealt with those and still florish the same with Iverson,Jordan,Lebron have to deal with throughout their careers so I give more respect to those guys cuz they overcame obstacles when doubted Kobe hasnt really done that yet. He did not even beat the Suns in 06 without Amare.
grant hill at his ... ( 2 months ago by dv122)
grant hill at his height was like jordan in his latter years with the bulls in terms of his style of play and athleticism. jordan in his prime was a far more athletic player and all around player. the same with kobe. kobe is nowhere near jordans athleticism nor skills. kobe is more comparable to jordan in his latter years with the bulls.

i know. how can kobe not average at least 50% from the floor while playing with shaq? while jordan in his prime playing by himself shot 50+ from the floor. kobe cant be considered the greatest offensive player when he cant even shoot 50% from the floor for one season.

MJ will forever be a tough act to follow but I feel for Grant Hill. Even I was hoping he'd be the next "Jordan", and I hated the Pistons. I still remember Grant's weak-hand alleyoop dunk against the Timberwolves in his rookie season. His spin moves down the lane off the dribble and all those triple doubles. He came close to averaging a triple double '96-97'. RESPECT G.Hill #33

if kobe was having this kind of performance he would do his stupid flying airplane-like action or flick his jersey to the crowd. jordan on the other hand would just smile that lights up the place..that shows he is a bsktball plyr with class.
i liked micheal ... ( 1 month ago by ebags18)
i liked micheal jordan in the early 90s more than the late 90s cause it seemed like he took the ball to the rim with more power instead shooting fadeaway all the time even though it was a good weapon i just think he shot jumpers more in late 90s than he used to but he still the best ever.

Jordan is the greatest by far. Jordan in his prime 87 to 93 was a beast. He still dominated the league 96-98 and he was not in his prime at that point. Jordan=GOAT

Jordan had such a natural or dare i say organic killer instinct. Players now just try to emulate him yet they have no substance. Jordan had the heart and skill of todays hall of famers in his rookie year.
