It's because the sound gets lost or too bloated for this type of music if you use the pedal.
personally I always use the pedal 1/4 pressed, I just love the way it makes the piano sound. its a compromise.

I belive its the Tokyo 1996 concert. If you watch the Autmumn leaves video its the performance on the Albumn Tokyo '96. This is awesome though because this piece isn't on the albumn.

OMG the second half of the bridge on the second chorus out is totally beasting. I'm transcribing that. Not touching those 8s, though. :P The line he plays on the bridge of the second chorus trading with Jack would not be fun to notate.

Let me say that I used to dislike Jarrett's music extremely. Well, to being with, I enjoyed his music, but that was before I had understood any notion of classical (and jazz) harmony. The, after learning basic music theory, I was dissatisfied with Jarrett's constant devotion to a single key, even sonority, for minutes on end. After gaining extensive knowledge of contemporary classical music, which should push me further from Jarrett's work, I find myself suddenly addicted!
