Wow! Fascinating... I love the line, "We're Nintendo kids, what the f*** do we know about farming." I'm also looking forward to Ep 2

Apparently Aslan, ... ( 1 year ago by PeakOilBoy)
Apparently Aslan, you aren't familiar with permaculture and biointensive farming, which allows you to grow quite a bounty with a small amount of land (which means your lawn!)
You make a good point, however, which is why I encourage people to purchase organic produce from their local farmers markets rather than fossil fuel based grocery stores.

As a fellow Nintendo Generation kid and farm boy, I gotta say THANK YOU!!
I've bene preaching the same kind of thing for a while, but everyone thinks I'm odd for doing this. You guys made mer ealize there is hope out there yet!

A space 3meters by 3meters has wnough potential to feed a family of four for a year, (organically). This idea of having to use pesticides etc is a myth. Go look at Transiton Towns in Cuba and learn to open your eyes to the possiblities

And whats to stop me from killing you and taking all you crops? when peak oil hits tyhe government will collaps. May I suggest a weapon of some kind?
Fertilizers and ... ( 1 year ago by youtuubbguy66)
Fertilizers and pesticides are like NOS into an engine. Of course it will run faster but it will also self destruct.
and when you run ... ( 1 year ago by KingMucktoad)
and when you run out of bullets? you essentially have a bit club, bullets will be the second thing to run out, the first being food. Your better off with a knife or a blade of somekind, cuz the monent you turn away from your weapons to grow some food they will be stolen. better not to risk it
But dont you see, ... ( 1 year ago by KingMucktoad)
But dont you see, EVERYONE will be scavenging for more ammunition. So to say that you will simply get there first is really very unlikly. You have a good point but I beleive guns will become little more then a creature comfort, after peak oil. Besides Peak oil will be perminant and oil has been used in the production of weapons for decades therefore, no oil = no more ammunition. You're still better off with a knife.
peace out
still your ammo ... ( 1 year ago by KingMucktoad)
still your ammo will run out eventually. If you can make black powder out of avilble resources, are the deposites of sulfer, charcol and potassium nitrate within walking distance? And can you walk there while carrying all your guns and ammo? Its not that having a gun is a bad idea but a good knife is always essential for a survial kit. After all a knife can't run out of bullets and can be sharpened over and over again making is useable for decades if you take care of it.

You have a link for that 9 sq meter stat? The best I've heard with intensive sustainable farming is 4k sq ft./person.
Array ( 6 months ago by SoaringEagle5344)
China & India didn't use much oil prior to 1990 and they still managed to feed a billion of their people. And what about Cuba when they lost over 70% of their oil imports overnight after the USSR collapsed in the early 1990s? It was a difficult transistion, but Cuba managed to switch from a petroleum based industrialized agricultural system to an organic one. And what about alternative energies? Don't you think if we could build an atomic bomb & send a man to the moon that we could solve this?

Right. Tell that to hard working people who are watching their money evaporate. I dare you.

Do you think phoenix is a good place to live when the crisis really takes hold? I think no, but what's your opinion.
I would not live in ... ( 5 months ago by PeakOilBoy)
I would not live in Pheonix. Especially since America has not healed its race wounds. When the system fails, old blood wars will reignite and any place with bad blood between races will face violent clashes, especially as resources become more scarce.
People do not behave when they are hungry, and especially when they are angry AND hungry.
This is the reason Bright Neighbor will help communities survive.

Its scary because the southwest has been in a drought for 10yrs. I really don't see the environment helping itself out for quite a awhile.

I went to hit reply to your water comment and accidentally hit 'remove' smiro. Regarding growing food in the desert, if you take a look at Gaia's Garden (by Toby Hemenway), you can see that permaculture can turn harsh territory into a bountiful oasis, albeit, it takes time to root.
I don't know how much time Phoenix has, but I wouldn't bet on the southwest. Vegas is toast, especially as lake mead goes bye bye.

Ok, that was funny as shit! "We're Nintendo kids, we don't know what the fuck we're dong". I totally LOVED that!
But yeah, you do have the right idea....Randy White. And btw, don't say you're nobody. That's bullshit. You definitely made a video worth a shit. :)
Thanks.
