In the late 60's, when this type of jazz was dying, he was called a "Coltrane clone" by idiotic rock critics who couldn't have passed a blindfold test to save their lives. He got so tired of this that he quit playing alltogether. I've heard him in Boston with the recent band twice. Anyone with ears can tell the difference between Lloyd and Coltrane. The only thing they had in common was the desire to to talk to God, and this Lloyd seemed to be doing. This clip has made me very happy. Thanks!

Yeah, that's quite ridiculous. I don't know how critics could compare the two, and even if they shared some characteristics, who cares, they were amazing musicians.
