Bernard Manning was a Manchester legend as big as the Smiths.His roots were in British Variety Hall entertainment ..but as that audience shrank (due to TV ) he went and became a Racist Bigott type stand up comic with a Shock effect type ACT ..This to many who new him well claimed was just an act , he gave heavily to Charity works including to groups and indviduals whos race would of been the butt of his humour..a very controversial comic..or an old man who remembered another way of life?

Nah, Morrissey's no racist, I can assure you! Bascially, it happened like this. He gave an interview to some rag saying that there was no reason why the BNP shouldn't have the right of assembly. Most media picked this story up and went to town on him, exactly as planned, because it was a very naive attempt to try to shake off his nuttier fans. He failed.
