PEPCON rocket fuel plant disaster.
The plant manufactured an oxidizer called Ammonium Perchlorate. Ammonium Perchlorate is not in itself a fuel but a key component. It will however explode if heated to a high temperature in a confined space.

I was home from school (sick) and so was my little brother. Our house shook and it went BOOM! and we thought it was a sonic boom. After the 2nd explosion we knew it wasn't. My dog ran under a chair whimpering (lol) My dad was out of town and when he came back the stuff on his walls was knocked off. I was worried about the drivers on Boulder HWY bc the glass on their cars *imploded* and they were injured. We turned on the news and they said it was too toxic-stay indoors.

I don't know what the TNT-equivalence of the exploded fuel is, but if it was actually TNT it should be around 4 kT's...

I think these are the fattest explosion which ever have occurred in such a factory.
Ater the 2nd one it seems as none of any buildings there remain intact. (forcibly vaporated by the blast shockwave which was really powerful).

I'm 25 now. I was in preschool and it was reading time; we all sat in rows and were listening to a story. I then remember a loud WHACK, the ground shook (just little bit because we were at UNLV, quite a distance away) and the windows shook like subwoofers. The teachers all jumped to attention and started scrambling to figure out what was going on, and some kids were crying. We thought it was an earthquake 'til we saw the news that night.
