Yeah, Bill is actually a smart man who knows a thing or two about the software industry. If he went to Harvard then he is obviously intelligent. Ballmer is a hack who doesn't deserve this position.

Yeah he is, but he is also arrogant and snobby. Jobs is still God compared to Ballmer. We all know who is the best and that is Bill Gates. Shit, I miss that guy. He should've just stayed as long as he could the same way Warren Buffett is staying.

Advertising is one ... ( 1 month ago by megamarsvin)
Advertising is one of the most persistent cancers of our society. It's what's driving the consumer spending frenzy of the past few decades which has now come back to bite us on the ass.

Fact 1- I own a computer repair business
Fact 2- I use a Linux Live CD over 95% of the time for Windows system failures
Fact 3- % of problems I've dealt with based on Windows OS: 100%
Fact 4- % of problems I've dealt with based on Linux OS: 0%
As I said before, "proprietary" only means two things: It COSTS, and it's LIMITED.
He just gets lots of money so he fools himself into believing what MS wants him to. It's the most primitive form of brainwashing.

Fact - your fact #'s 3 and 4 are incredibly misleading.
If Linux is so great, how come I spent 3 days trying to get my Ubuntu install to work with my wireless card? I finally got it to work, but the connection was so degraded it wasn't worth it.
I respectfully ... ( 3 days ago by jonthecomposer)
I respectfully disagree. I do own a computer repair business. And mostly, the people who are willing to tweak their equipment (kinda like how car buffs like to customize their vehicles) are usually the kind who have or try Linux, so there is almost no need for Linux repairs. Plus, they can get the info for nothing. This is totally the opposite of "proprietary." I don't believe the comment is misleading at all.

"If Linux is so great, how come I spent 3 days trying to get my Ubuntu install to work with my wireless card?"
Probably because you had a VERY crappy wireless card whose developers only cared about writing drivers for Windows and that didn't make through the Linux developers' priority queue.
What card was it? Did it support AES?
So in response to ... ( 2 days ago by chunksloth)
So in response to REAL shortcomings in the Linux iser experience you:
1. Tell me that my wireless card is "VERY Crappy", even though it connects me to the net like every other card out there...
2. Make an excuse for why I had to spend 3 days trying to find an (unacceptable )solution.
That, in a nutshell, is why Linux is only useable for a very small fraction of the population. You cannot expect every person to be Linus Torvalds.
Hey, come on, I ... ( 2 days ago by Eikinkloster)
Hey, come on, I said it _probably is_ VERY crappy. I don't even think Linux is ready for the end user: It certainly isn't ready for me. But not being able to make an unspecified wireless card work with a system not end user ready make. Both my Atheros AR5008X Wireless Network Adapter and my DLINK-DI-524 adapter play seamlessly with Ubuntu, while my Encore ENPWI-G Wireless PCMCIA Adapter from Hell took me days to figure out how to work on _Windows XP_.
I messed up with ... ( 2 days ago by Eikinkloster)
I messed up with the "not end user ready make" but I guess it's still readable. Anyway, I'll tell you the kind of thing that grosses me out with Linux (and so open myself to like criticism): at some point I was a BOINC enthusiast, and I wanted to run it on all of my processors. I had it running on Windows XP and on Mac OS X by basically double clicking an icon. For Ubuntu I had a *page long recipe* and in the end, it didn't work :-). So, not ready for me.
Look, we're not ... ( 1 day ago by jonthecomposer)
Look, we're not trying to say you suck because you use Windows. I use Windows myself right along with Linux. But they both have their strengths and weaknesses. And since the Linux mantra is all about freedom, the Linux community is by default fine with Windows (or at least they should be).
With that being said, you cannot honestly put down ALL Linux for ONE problem. That would be comparable to scrapping Windows because it wouldn't support your sound card.

I use Windows Vista for it's simplexity, Direct x 10, and gaming.
It's amazing for the stuff I want to do.
