Well... I just listen to Metallica "One" and here goes:
- they are both different songs even if they share the title.
- On U2 side, you got great lyrics about a relationship that has ended
- For Metallica, you get a confused story about the value of life and self sacrifice
Overall, imo U2 wins...

For all those asking what is the meaning behind this song - it's about a gay son who is coming out to his dad. Listen to the song again with that in mind. Lyrics are very powerful and relavent.
