I noticed comething interesting about this piece... at no time does he fret a string with his left hand and pluck that same string with his right hand to make a note sound. In other words, there's no "plain" pickin' in this composition!

Good call. I'm so bowled over by the technique and the music itself that I often don't stop and THINK about what I'm seeing when I watch the Hedges clips.
He must have developed some SERIOUS left hand strength for that continual hammer-fretting technique (although I'm sure his amp/EQ rig helped in pronouncing it).
