To JRock: I'm not sure if BIGBRADY knew he was lying to you or not, but Jack Kirby is not the main figure behind DC. Jack Kirby is best known for his artwork for Marvel. I guess if DC had a "main figure," it would be it's founder, Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson.

JACK KIRBY is the true main figure for Marvel. If you think Kirby was just drawing Stan's ideas you need to look at the facts. Kirby saved Marvel. Kirby joins Marvel and shortly after, they have a thousand new and inventive characters. Kirby leaves Marvel and creates an entire universe of characters for D.C., many of which are still huge. Stan, at this time, QUITS WRITING. Jack comes back to Marvel and creates more characters that are still quite big. The facts are undeniable.

I do love Stan, though. The best editor and best script-writer for comics. But not THE IDEA MAN. He got most of the ORIGINAL ideas from the artists... usually KIRBY. Stan is a hambone and lots of fun but he seriously overstates his CREATIVE ROLE in so far as the conception of NEW CHARACTERS. His style of writing was revolutionary but without the artists, he would have had nothing to write. NO JACK... NO STAN OR MARVEL. NO MARVEL... D.C. probably has a thousand more characters from Jack.

Well I could care less about anyone else. Stan made most of the characters and/or super teams that I still like today Spiderman, Hulk, X-Men, and Ironman only to name a few.

Stan did a GREAT job of writing DIALOGUE for characters that JACK KIRBY CREATED, like THE X-MEN (including MAGNETO), IRON-MAN, THE HULK, THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA(created BEFORE STAN LEE EVEN HAD A JOB), The Black Panther, The Fantastic Four, The Avengers and THE SILVER SURFER(INDISPUTABLY CREATED BY JACK) to name A FRACTION of the KING'S OUTPUT! You know who FIRST called JACK KIRBY 'THE KING'? IT WAS STAN LEE!!! I love Stan Lee also but the facts remain... JACK KIRBY MADE MARVEL! 'NUFF SAID!'

A good example would be all the early Marvel compilations such as 'Origins' only say 'BY STAN LEE'. That is an insult and a LIE. One must assume that Marvel did not want to have to pay more to other creators, LIKE JACK. Marvel is a disgrace for the way they treated Kirby. They even tried to STEAL his original art. In fact, considering how much went 'missing', 'somebody' stole quite a bit. Stan, NATURALLY, did not come to Jack's defense. Stan is a company man. A CORPORATE MAN. Jack was REAL.

ya, well, being a company man didnt stop lee from suing marvel for his share of the spidey franchise...a share that shouldve been given to ditko...fyi, at the time of the original settlement, when jack finally got his original art back, stan was just a figurehead, the company was being run by jim shooter...who finally got his own comeuppance when he was ousted from valiant

Now now Brabon, I'll admit Stan's hogged the credit for quite a lot of things in his lifetime, The creation of the Marvel Universe for instance without very much mention of say Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and some others, Lee turning Jack Kirby's Silver Surfer from a godlike being of pure energy into a soliloquy spouting cosmic hippy however---
Well, Stan can be a nice guy in a sort of P.T. Barnum style, He reminds me of a comicbook dealer I know who will try to sell you Central Park with a smile.

of course he is nice...you would be nice too if you became a millionaire by making sure that you got the compensation for other's work...to this day, ditko hasnt received dollar one from the spidey franchise...kirby hasnt seen dollar one from anything (at least dc has been relatively generous in regards to his 4th world creations) i cried when kirby died...i wont shed a tear for lee
