I am not a big fan in live view originally as well but it does help when u r using MF or when u r shooting object located pretty low

Live View is very useful for macro photography and manual focusing. An articulated live view screen makes the feature much more useful, but only available on other models.

Live view will be the trend! Lets see.
Great demonstration ... ( 1 year ago by emph)
Great demonstration of in body verses in lens stabilization, I expected the in lens to out perform the in body but the results although very close seem to favor the in body set up. As for live view I think it's just a natural evolution of the Digital SLR. I don't understand the strong objection to live view, it's there if you want it and if you don't then don't use it. Simple as that.
I think the body ... ( 1 year ago by elvischen2006)
I think the body build-in IS is the best solution, however it doesn't help the vision in OVF.

Im using the E-510 as well and i must say that the in body IS works very well especially in longer focal lengths..
You failed to see that E-system actually communicates with the body so even with longer focal lengths, the in body IS compensates for that.. =)
The E-System does ... ( 1 year ago by cameralabs)
The E-System does know which focal length it's using, but the sensor can still only move so far within the body regardless of the lens you attach. Whereas if stabilisation is built into the lens, it can be tailored specifically for the focal length.

I am upgrading my E-500 to either the new E-3 or the E-510, simply for LiveView. There is simply no better way to manually focus critical pictures than on a larger LCD screen under magnification...small viewfinders just don't cut it. If you don't use manual focus, then perhaps you don't need LV...but I personally think LV is a great tool for critical focusing and perhaps macro.

It certainly is very useful for critical focusing work - have you seen our Canon 40D astrophotography video? That shows how useful LV can be - we also havea demo for macro work in the main 40D video tour...

I bought this camera over a week ago and i love it. i was taking great picture in 30min and this is the first slr i have ever used. it a great beginner slr camera. one thing that really turned me on to it was the live view. ive been used to it for years cause of my old compact camera. now one of the thing that I have recently read is that live view heats up the camera and heat is something that really effect the sensor cause more noise in your pictures. Is there any truth to this?

Glad to help! I believe Live View and Anti Shake can heat up the sensor over time, but the E-510 will shut them off if it's getting hot. I think there's mention of this in the manual. I wouldn't worry, but I would suggest using the optical v/f for most of your shots.

Now this is a review that I had been waiting for!
If i had this camera and lens combination, which IS system uses less power? I would gladly forgo the benefits of stabilization of the viewfinder image if both systems have the same effectiveness but the sensor shift IS used less battery power.
The effectiveness ... ( 9 months ago by KaiAdin)
The effectiveness of the Lens based stabilization could be related to the company that produced it. How long they had been producing stabilized lenses and such.

Thanks for this video. I received my E-510 yesterday and love it already. How about a review on some Olympus telephoto lens, macro lens and how about a video on the advantages and disadvantages of a fixed focus lens. Thanks again I am favoriting them all.

I do hope to test some more lenses in the future, but in the meantime, there's several Olympus owners on the Cameralabs forums if you want to ask more about lens options...
the reason that the ... ( 6 months ago by disturbed1777)
the reason that the camera shake appears the same with both ON as with both OFF is because the lens is trying to counteract the shake by directing the light to where IT THINKS the sensor is, but the sensor is actually moving to counteract the shake, so the light the lens redirected is no longer hitting it's intended target.

That's right - basically the two systems conflict if they don't know about each other.

Please advise, if I buy an e420, which does not have anti shake in the body, would i be able to buy Leica lenses with the anti shake, and get a good overall result?

Yes, the Leica lenses will work fine on the E410 and presumably the E420, but they are quite big, heavy and expensive...

I don't believe so, but there may be some adapters which offer basic functionality. The Nikon owners on the Cameralabs forum may be able to offer more help.

It's not that bad - I only had the E-510 about 10cm away from the camcorder microphone...
