I can't believe some people are calling Jar Jar "the shit." You guys must've been kids when Phantom Menace came out.
The not-even-a-decade-old nostalgia blinds these people. Everyone else and their mother who cut their teeth on the ORIGINAL trilogy (no modifications) knows Jar Jar is annoying. Try to find a message board archive from 1999 discussing this movie and you'll read nothing but hate for this character.

Jar jar Binks is the reason I haven't seen Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith - The Phantom Menace was such a terrible movie that it completely turned me off of the new series.

Really? Wow..well he is only in like 5 minutes of the Clone Wars and I don't remember him being in Revenge of the sith at all. If anything you should just watch revenge of the sith, it had the epic lightsaber duels the Star wars universe always needed, and Anakin is hilariously emotional-he was in the clone wars but it was just unbearable..-"You underestimate my POWerhhh..!" eheh, priceless.

Well, it wasn't just Jar Jar Binks that turned me off of the new trilogy - I was really disappointed in everything in the Phantom Menace - plot, characters, the villain who has maybe 2 lines of dialogue and none of Darth Vadar's presence, even the special effects (the droid battle scene reminded me of early Playstation games - I expected better from a high-budget movie), but Jar Jar Binks was definitely the worst part.

Oh I agree, and in clone wars there is, IMO, a lot of bad acting, the events in it are important but get dumbed down by how un-epic it is and the horrible love scenes are UNBEARABLE. But revenge of the sith, though it has it's problems, is MUCH better IMO. The battles are done MUCH better and like I said, the lightsaber duels are incredible, and the story and events are much better too.

In Revenge of the Sith, Jar Jar Binks had a very minor role. He only showed up as a cameo in Padme's funeral. Frankly he should have just died in the 2nd one in battle or something.
Lucas really should have done different things with that character like make him as reminiscent of the 3 Stooges.

Ways Jar Jar Binks could have worked: 1)Lose the quasi-Jamaican accent. 2)Have him talk with grammatical errors, but still like a normal person. 2)Lose the big, floppy ears and make them small ones. 3)Keep the clumsy mistakes though, although have it where it detrimentally affects other characters. Reminiscent of the 3 Stooges.
