Like in any other martial arts, it is only used as self defense, not for terroizing others and misuse it for violence. In fact the strong empire of Majapahit have been using it defending their city from the Dutch effectively till it was really overwhelming, and in Malaysia Malacca it was used effectively driving the invading Siamese TWICE. Aint no country, city or any human being in this world is as powerful as one claim it can be. Dats just ignorant.

I like both Muay Thai and Silat. Muay Thai is the best in the ring, but outside with no gloves most probably it'll lose to Silat or other martial arts. Coz it's a hit and block fighting style.

I agree all the hating on marial arts needs to stop. I disagree that silat would beat Thai outside of the ring. There is a difference between ring Thai and Muay Thai. I believe that it would come down to the fighters.

I did't mean to say that Silat would definitely beat Muay Thai. But it has higher chance of doing so considering Silat fighters train to make use of their grabbing ability. And with weapons Silat would definitely win. But it depends on how the fighters fight like you say.

This isn't real martial Silat. This is a sport's version of Silat. Just like the difference between Judo and Jujutsu.

Jujutsu = used in life-death fight.

thats only true in that part of asia most likely the styles now known as silat orignated from some other form of martial art for example the combat style taught to the Russian commando and even the KGB has some roots that connect to Judo and Judo could probably root some of its styles from an ancient Chinese style.
