It's the best job in the world. You can get away with any crime you want, beat and bully people to raise your self-esteem, and then be a hypocritical P.O.S. by arresting others for lesser crimes.

Do don't see "To Protect and Serve" any more. Just law enforcement. What is wrong with that. I think they call it a police state.

Its New York City. Blocking the streets is the end of a peaceful protest. Protest on the sidewalk all you want. When I'm trying to get home and people are blocking the road, the cops HAVE to do something about it. I understand police brutality but this was not a display of one.
Ignoring for the ... ( 11 months ago by SvenNetpimp)
Ignoring for the moment the fact that Critical Mass is a bike ride and not a protest; the 1st amendment right to protest trumps your "right" to get home quickly, which is not a constitutionally protected right. Traffic happens in NYC, that's just the reality.

aren't the police just slowing the whole thing down? if the cars want to get through im pretty sure theyre gonna wait longer if the police are trying to arrest some random CM rider

albdude4lyfe - that's not true. cite a news source. critical mass people were never even accused of "destroying" a car in NYC ever
This videos a joke. ... ( 11 months ago by toddm030)
This videos a joke. It doesn't show why the arrest happened in the first place. I doubt that the cops thought "hmmm... it might be fun to arrest a random person for no reason in a mob full of people who want to kill you."
Your completely biased. Next time edit the video from an objective standpoint.
toddm030 - Actually ... ( 11 months ago by SvenNetpimp)
toddm030 - Actually this video *does* show why the arrests happened in the first place. It happened because critical mass held its monthly ride. The NYC police have harassed the critical mass bikeride ever since the GOP convention in 2004. The city even sued CM and lost in court. I cited links further down in the thread. go read them before you say any other foolish things.

I think the concept ... ( 11 months ago by MorePOwerplz)
I think the concept of having to apply for a permit to assemble is corrupt. If your right is put up for approval or denial through a third party it makes it wrong. The litany involved is a clever veil of control.
I agree with you to ... ( 10 months ago by bobbycratchit)
I agree with you to a point but I think you're just being disruptive. So then you want to assemble anywhere that you like, anytime that you like? You can stop traffic? And what about the people that are just trying to get to work? What about their rights?
First of all, it's ... ( 10 months ago by SvenNetpimp)
First of all, it's night. Nobody is trying to get to work. Secondly, in NYC there are traffic jams sometimes. Nobody has a right to not be affected by traffic. Thirdly the right to assemble and protest is a constitutionally protected right. However the bike ride is not really a protest, it's just a bike ride.

That is how it *used* to be in NYC also, until the August 2004 critical mass ride which was at the same time as the Republican National Convention. From then on the cops went apeshit and have never let up, to this day.

Maybe if some of those cops rode bike once in a while they wouldn't be so obese. What is the deal now with hassling bike riders? If more people rode bike it would help solve some of our problems.
