Artist's Statement
The first thing I want to bring up is that I used a program called World of Warcraft. It is a video game and has an interface that appears on the video. This does not have any significance to the performance. Another thing I want to mention is the recorder I used did not allow me to remove the logo on the bottom right corner, so please bear with me.
There may be many meanings behind my piece, "Dancing in Hot Sauce", but I do have some thoughts on my creation. The first scene has the character, who we'll call Mignar, wake up, head down stairs and into the outside world. He looks around and returns to his room to find a somewhat dressed woman dancing in front of another. Mignar cries, then storms out of the room only to faint in the middle of the bar. You will also notice that this scene is in black and white. This scene is the world as it stands, confined. Expression is barred in the world Mignar lives in. Seeing the dancing woman, Mignar is confused. Is it love or lust that he wants? It doesn't matter though since this world chains the burning feeling he has always wanted to express. He doesn't see color because he was born into a color blind world.
Scene two continues the blur that ended scene one but now there is color. This is Mignar's needs. This blue demon is his urges and ultimately what he wants to become. This demon is not accepted by the world and is forced into the dark recesses of his mind. Mignar's first line about what the world needs is representative of self-obsession. His skies are red because his lust is out of control and his world is out of control. The "rain" that is spoken of is the much needed sexual release.
Scene three comes back to Mignar on the floor of the tavern he last fainted in. He walks up to a man and the two converse. In reality the man is better than what society would have you believe, but what society says goes. Although the avatars did not display it as I would have liked, the delves into his own mind to see that he is not love. Mignar comes to realize that love and lust are not the same. Perhaps he and the man are the same perversion but the man is just a minor detail. Mignar leaves the world again because he is tired and wants to live.
The final scene ends with Mignar's inner self waking up in a river of blood, and sees the two women earlier dancing. The river of blood is what you could call passion in liquid form. The dancers are what Mignar wants, love and lust. In his world he has both.
This is my performance and I am proud to call it my own. I hope you enjoy my creation as much as I enjoyed creating it.
