Harlan Ellison & Robin Williams discuss LRH

"Of all the groups and/or individuals who might wish to do me bad cess, out of animus or insanity, I never have to worry about Scientologists. I haven't seen the thing you reference on YouTube, but Ron Hubbard and I were friends. No matter in what godhood he is held by those who may "follow his footsteps," Ron HIMSELF told them to leave me alone, that I was okay in his book. I may not have much use for Scientology, but I had--and still have--LOTS of camaraderie and admiration for the man." - Harlan Ellison

You know, I've felt ... ( 5 months ago by 7tilsleep)
You know, I've felt like shit plenty of times in my life before, and I'm sure everyone else has at some point or another.
If Dianetics is bullshit, then why the hell don't I FEEL like bullshit because of it? It's made my life a bazillion times better than it ever was, or ever will be.
I know this from experience, being a person who understands what feeling like shit is all about.
I'm sure someone can relate, here. Anyone?

Regression Therapy and Hypnosis, he researched psychotherapy techniques 'at the time' he wrote dianetics. He applied them badly in part BUT also it is WAY out of date and practiced by people who want to wage war on the profession their techniques were stolen from..

Well, there are a few reasons. One is the placebo effect. It makes you feel good because you want it to make you feel good, it's a self fulfilling prophecy. Another is the community of Scientology, that, like other organized religions, makes people feel good because they feel like they belong somewhere.
Honestly, if it works for you, that's great. What the protestors and critics want to expose are the abuses of the organization of the Church.
Why does ... ( 5 months ago by Radacoin)
Why does enlightenment cost money? Why are CoS's employees not being paid minimum wage? Why does the Office of Special Affair harass, defame, sue, and attack critics of the CoS when Scientology is supposed to be pro-free speech? Why does the CoS receive religious favoritism from the IRS, in direct violation of the establishment clause? Why doesn't CoS openly admit their beliefs in Incident II aka the Xenu story? Why is there a Disconnection Policy?
These are the questions we ask, you should too

There is a fundamental difference here between religion and the church(?) of scientology. I agree with you 7tilsleep, im sure that using study tech can indeed help people, without a doubt it can increase self awareness. However the practices of the church(?) is a different matter. I am sure that you could have found another avenue of self evaluation that would have cost you far less + been far more beneficial. Now that you are in scientology you seem to believe it is the be all + end all.

AAAHHHHhhh yes, so begins Scientology.
But no matter how many times it's shown and/or proven that L Ron Hubbard basically made up Scientology, the people who follow it refuse to accept the truth. Obviously the higher ups are just money hungry and crazy but the lower people are fucking sheep (sheeple).

You have to understand that Ellison grew up idolizing Hubbard and derived a great deal of inspiration from his work, and his dedication to it - long before Hubbard went batshit crazy. He's trying desperately to hold onto that hero, and blot out what that hero ultimately became.

Hubbard had a failed business deal with Jack Parsons, and ran off with Jack's boat and babe. Jack Parsons who would be responsible for the famous JPL (Jet Propulsion Labrotories) turned out to also be an occultist who was a disciple of Crowley's.
thieving the babe and boat kinda goes with Hubbard's love the navy and getting funky wit the ladies. He could have also got influence indirectly from crowley.. hmm.

I've been reading and following Harlan off-and-on for almost 40 years now. Those of us who came up on science fiction were not strangers to Ron Hubbard. Good short story writer, then one day he shows up with a religion and next thing we knew "Scientology" had this huge following. We were dumbfounded! I could have created that! God help you if you try to debate someone who believes in that stuff, though. Hubbard was smart and sharp and a good, good, good salesman. You can start a religion!

Religion & Scientology are like the fairy tales Mother Goose & Jack and the Bean stalk: Written to help the frightened little monkey's sleep at night
The belief in one fairy tale over another is completely arbitrary - And depends on which frightening story you heard as a child
In reality, people are simply afraid of the responsibility associated with having an "internal locus of control" - Thus, they invent saviors to hide behind when it gets dark out at night
