I take nothing away from Montana as far as his presence & poise; he proved he was one of the greatest of all time, no question !!! But "The Catch" was a very lucky play; I bet Dwight Clark has never jumped higher than that in his entire life . . . you can't beat shit like that . .

Cowboys played dime on that drive, niners didnt have a running game all season long, so they ran on them on the cowboys pass defense. The catch was just well... the result of it. I literally flipped on the couch off the coffee table when Clark caught the touchdown. Imagine if the 49ers didn't turn the ball over. I don't think the game would have been that close. Give credit to two everson walls INTs, although they were really bad throws by joe.

Shouldn't compare Brady to Joe. Just different QB styles. Brady should be compared to Simms, Fouts, Marino, etc. They're pocket QBs who can't scramble. Brady has so much time and even steps up on most of his throws. Give him pressure and you saw what happened to him against the Giants, his only good drives were when there was no pressure and he was spooked. He can't role out and scramble and throw on the run (not throw jogging ok.. i mean running) like Joe, Steve Young or even Farve.

There's no such thing as luck, but I get what you're saying. The catch was a combination of chance, good leaping, hands, and the ability of Montana to rollout and avoid Jones while still getting enough on the ball to get t close to Clark. The Td was going to happen as Dallas couldn't make any stops on this drive. This was great play calling by Walsh and I wished Elliot, Cooper, and the offensive line would get the credit they deserve for making the catch possible.

That applies for all Qb's. No QB likes pressure, as Marino can tell you when he got thumped by the 49ers in a Super Bowl Blowout that makes SB 42 look like chump change. Brady is not a natural like Fouts or Marino, but he's smarter and I think he'll still match Joe for rings and even top him as he doesn't have the health issues Joe faced late in his career. He also is just turned 30, so he'll have a good 5 years to work with, barring any big injury.

Those drives you speak of were the result of zero pressure, which was due the Pats adapting to the game and wearing down the Giants D. The Pats and Brady had the Giants defense sucking wind; much like the Broncos did against the huge Packer D in SB 32. It was one of the things that couldn't understand why it wasn't used sooner. That cost them and I said that the Pats scored to quickly and had left too much time on the clock for the Giants. They should have bled it and they didn't.

Um, Bradshaw they for 210 picks, nearly matching his TD's. Plus his team was a running team. Yes he could bomb it, but he could also blow it with one dumb pass. He threw 3 vs. LA during his MVP SB, which should have gone to Stallworth. Brady's much smarter than Bradshaw was and he has to do much more than just feed Harris. I like Bradshaw, but I'd never say He was a better QB, because the numbers don't support it. He was more talented, but smarts wins ball games. Montana proved that true.

Montana was good, but I don't understand why he gets the credit that he does. This drive is the prime example. Where are the props for Bill Walsh? This drive was about great play calling, and he was responsible. Montana was good, but he got more credit than he deserved for the Niners winning 4 SB's in the 80's. I don't think Montana is the best ever. I would take Elway or Marino. Elway led 3 teams to the SB in the 80's all by himself. Put him on those SF teams, they have 5 rings.

when you put walsh and montana on a team, you get 4 superbowls. nevermind walsh retiring before montana's 4th. walsh gave the niner nation 20 years of dominance. he gave montana jerry rice and put in steve young to bring in more dominance. walsh saw something in young that most didnt. what happened? 2 QB's that brought in 5 superbowls, which coulda easily been 10. young was greater than montana, just look at the numbers, steve young was above everything.

thats' right, sb wins define a player. look at dan marino, he did everything, in the playoffs, the guy sucked. sb victories define players at the highest level of all sports, the biggest of all stages, the pressure is huge. yes the niners had a better team, but montana stood out along with walsh becuz of their abilities. take a look a marino, he had at least 2 seasons where he had a team with a defense and a running game, the guy choked regardless. elway? he lost 3 superbowls, one of them 55-10

Agreed seastorm, his impact goes beyond the field. He also changed the way defense was played because teams had change their style in order to adapt to the West Coast Offense.
