Watch Natalie Dessay singing this. She shows how someone with proper technique can naturally fill an auditorium with a glorious voice and still be funny. Plus, Dessay's high notes are actually bearable to listen to.
Natalie Dessay? she had 2 operations in her throat..wonder why?
She's singing inside with well-known orchestra, so I would say it's a fair assumption that the venue they are using has decent acoustics.
Contrary to popular belief, Dessay's vocal operations were due to a cist/polyp. They were not due to nodules.
Ms. Chenoweth is a good singer, but she does not display a solid vocal performance in this type of more difficult repertoire.
The sadness and the madness of the vocals/character. They're kind of both manic depressants.
All that said, I do love both of them, but Kristen is pretty obviously superior when it comes to vocal performance, and her acting is pretty great too.

While I agree that the best sound is purely acoustic, Dessay's performance had to have a mic somewhere, or it couldn't have been recorded. Unless you were at the performance, you can't know how much of the mic went through the house.
Yes, they stuck a video camera in the theater, but when was the last time you went to a concert with the singer magnified by a microphone sitting in the balcony? Dessay has no microphone sitting next to her mouth as Chenoweth clearly does. If they were going to mic Dessay, they would have put it right in front of her, not 50 feet away.
