I know it's cliche - but really, why don't we get music like this anymore????
I played this stuff endlessly.
We don't get music ... ( 1 year ago by gumborific)
We don't get music like this anymore because culture has given us cell phones, longer work weeks, and hectic freaking lives. You know, meaningless crap.
But, we know about them, and that is all that matters. Turn people onto it. Some will go "What the hell is this?" and answer their cell phone, others will say "Thank you", and turn the damn thing off!
Okay, maybe that was dramatic, but it is better than saying...I have no idea why!

I like your flair for the dramatic.
Actually that was a good answer......

gumborific:I agree, the trouble is is that today's consumer, hectic go no-where life means almost 100% employment. The loss of culture, and our enjoyment of it, is in my opinion a big price to pay. Still a great atmospheric track.

Indeed. I think if you turn on real rock fans, fans of Queens of the Stone Age, even System of a Down to the fact that even though not as heavy Renaissance has a crispness in their musical ability that heavier music fans can relate too. I was brough up on this, and then gravitated to Jethro Tull and classic metal in the 80's. My 6 year old thinks this is beautiful, and my 10 year old plays piano, I play bass...maybe she will sing and we can cover this. :-)

Oh and before I forget, in case you don't know, check out a band called The October Project.

Actually bought A Song for All Seasons, but haven't played it for years. Northern Lights is of course the best known track and deservedly so. Would just like to say I have had the good fortune to find recent music of a this genre-but better songs and even better lead vocalist than AH-Czech group Cechomor with Lenka Dusilova. The Promeny album with orchestral arrangements by Jaz Coleman is sublime and a couple of tracks can be heard elsewhere on YouTube.

Bought A Song for All Seasons, but haven't played it in years. Northern Lights deservedly the best-known track. Just want to reassure you CAN get music like this, but maybe not in the UK. Try Czech group Cechomor's 'Promeny'-can be found on YouTube . Better songs than Renaissance, in my opinion, and vocalist Lenka Dusilova is better even than Annie Haslam.

Checked out (or Czeched out) Chechomor. Interesting and I shall keep watching them, but you can't really compare them to R. For a start, Renaissance didn't cover trad folk material.

Yeah, I love Epica's last album. Their singer Simone Simons is one of my favorites to come along since Annie Haslam. Such a beautiful voice. For those of you that haven't heard Epica, check out "Chasing the Dragon" in my favorites here on youtube. Amazing track.
