The Orgy version was a mere carbon copy. New Order created it, Orgy did a karaoke version.
Much more difficult to be a pioneer than a cover band.

Yes, the singer is not the best and this live performance is one of the worse I've seen of the song. This still remains: Orgy are nothing compare to New Order. This band made history, nobody will remember Orgy years from now.

New Order appeared on the BBC's Top of the Pops, on 31 March 1983, to promote the song. It had long been the show's policy that artists would mime to a backing track, but New Order insisted on performing Blue Monday live. The performance was dogged by technical problems, and was unrepresentative of the recording. In the words of drummer Steve Morris, "Blue Monday was never the easiest song to perform, anyway, and everything went wrong. The synthesisers went awry. It sounded awful". (Wikipedia)

I think this is one of the reasons why they did not do Blue Monday at many of their early 80s shows ... once the technology became more dependent, they began to play it more.

It's a band that covered New Order's Blue Monday in 1998 and became known thanks to the it. They're pretty much a one-hit-wonder and their one hit is a cover on top of that.

god bless factory records for making them do this!! It sounds terrible live! another thing... do you remember the album cover? it was made to look like a floppy disk, with cut outs and everything!! it cost more to make than they sold it for!! they lost money on every sale and this video put those sales down even more... still it's the biggest selling 12" single of ALL TIME and no wonder!!
