SRV was pretty wicked and amazing with feedback and whammy bar. I never really heard anybody (beside Jimi Hendrix) play with such feedback and witht he whammy bar so good and make it work so amazing and that it sounds so raw, powerful and tasty. And through the years it just went better and better.

Yep, Jimi did it live. Somewhere in the beggining of the 1969 tour (I believe it was January month or so), but he definetely did this song live.

it's weird how many songs Jimi did live that people don't know about. just two days ago, I found out he did Up From the Skies live. so 3rd Stone is probably out there...I'd like to hear it.
yesterday, I was listening to his last Machine Gun, in Berlin, which was fucking ill(hear it if you haven't)...and he threw the 3rd Stone riff in that. he also played it during Voodoo Child at the Isle of Wight also.

Yeah it is a bit weird. And yeah I heard about that he did Up From The Skies live. A great song. He even did some more rare songs live like Burning of The Midnight Lamp, Can You See Me, Bold As Love, etc...
And yes I heard the Berlin show and it is amazing!

I love Stevie's playing. But, now, no matter how well he plays Hendrix note for note there will still never be a creative mind such as Jimi who came up this great music, style and guitar playing that changed music. As a guitarist if someone asked you, you have a choice you can meet Stevie or Hendrix tonight and talk about playing guitars, devices or equipment and thoughts on music who would you choose?

I would never sort my mind to say who. Most likely would go for them both (cause going by one over another is bullshit).
I like them both and they are both the best electric guitar players of all time.
BTW. If you notice in this video SRV isn't copying Hendrix at all. There is no note for note going on here at all. This is SRV's own tribute and version of playing this amazing song in a way of his own and it is an amazing paying respect to the one and only Jimi Hendrix.

And that's the one thing I loved about Stevie. He did a lot of covers. But he never played them like it was a cover. It's only called a cover because someone already did the song, but Stevie added a bunch of stuff to his versions that you really can't call them covers
