I don't necessarily think labels are inherently bad. I think the problems arise when individuals (or, actually I suppose societies, cultures and sub-cultures too,) let the labels determine thier behavior. For example, a person who identifies as butch feeling the need to show interest in cars or sports while hiding interests in shopping in order to maintain thier identity. (Comment two long, more in next comment)

Continued.
The examples I gave are intentionally stereotypical, of course. My point is that the labels are not the problem- I think some people are butch, and some people are femme. A lot of people enjoy labels and have fun with them. Other people are niether butch or femme because they simply don't identify that way. Whether labeled or not, I just wish we could get to a place where a label does not determine what is acceptable for a person to enjoy.

I had a really interesting discussion with XXxlinddzxXX about labels the last time the topic was raised.
I'm not into labels, but as she pointed out embracing labels can be a form of empowerment, sometime to own and claim as yours. And I'm sure when you're starting out that sort of "foothold" can really boost your confidence!
I'm the first time discussion would be helpful, HELL it should be done by someone for straight people too haha!

Five stars. You made some great points in this video. Sometimes labels are a suffocating force in society. They keep some people from doing whatever they want. And that's really a shame.
Also, no matter what lighting you're in... You're beautiful.

Honestly? This was the first vid of yours that I could really agree with. Now I know that this channel isn't for me persay (straight guy), but I am a people-watcher, and I love to learn about people that are different from me.
I completely agree about the stereotyping. I really believe that stereotypes are perpetuated by people that are simply uncomfortable with themselves.

People will always ... ( 3 months ago by blickblocks)
People will always try to create labels and categories because it makes it easier to understand larger groups of people, even if the definitions are mostly arbitrary.
There's also dyke vs. lesbian. I got flack from someone when I mentioned wanting to get a lip piercing, and that it might help people read me as a dyke. It's my own personal expression of my identity, but he took it as adhering to labels and stereotypes. You don't have to AVOID stereotypes if you're expressing yourself genuinely!

I don't think your community is any more or less guilty of stereotyping than any other. And I agree with you--people should be judged as individuals not as part of a labeled group. (If indeed we should be judging at all)
Congrats on your channel. You're presenting the lesbian lifestyle in a much more positive light than most of us (straights) have previously encountered.

Good morning peeps
I have said this before on this topic. The reasons we have labels today is because it make people comfortable. I personally think that we are who we are and just because of what choices we make dont make us different.
Dont be good be good at it.
