You know how lidstrom got those trophies. Talent, and being surroundd by talent. Now, take a player like Niedermayer. a future hall of famer, for sure. He's tough, and makes his team better becasue of it. Lidstrom jsut gets a lot of assists. He's a bitch, look at this video. He can play the game well, but cant take a hit. as far as h.o.f goes. Rafalski, zubov, gonchar.... you're serious? You dont have a clue.
We all know how many norris trophies he has. Like we know how many vezinas hasek has. But hasek was still a washed up bum, who couldnt win a stanley cup. Came back and played the worst hokey of his career. Lidstrom get norris trohpies becaus he plays with talented offensive players. What does Pronger's strong defensive play have to do with Lidstrom not being able to take a hit? fucking christ your dumb
Putting Lidstrom onto a team, would not make them a cup contender. Put Brodeur or Ovechkin onto a team, it increases their chances tenfold. Lidstrom doesn't bring that. He's only good around good players. He doesn't stand alone.
... this is the limit of intelligence of detroit fans. no wonder they weren't saying shit for the 42 years they didnt win a cup. Because they're too stupid to say anything that makes sense.
If lidstrom is so great, the best player in the league. Why is it that he has never won any of the following:
Lester B Pearson, Hart Memorial, or Player of the year awards? ALL of which ovechkin won last season, along with the Rocket Richard AND Art Ross Trophy
See the team above, the avalanche. Look up a guy named Patrick Roy. Record holding 3 Conn Smythes. So what if Lidstrom has 6 Norris trophies, he's the 3rd defender to do it. He's a great player. but he's not the best.
When you talk about cups. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Federov, Yzerman, Shanahan, to name a few. NEVER been a 1 man show
Ovechkin scored more goals than Lidstrom had assists. He's accomplished more in 3 years than Lidstrom could ever do, & took a bottom of the table team, to division leader. Lidstrom couldnt offer that support.
stanley cups dont mean everything, and Lidstrom obviously wasnt the most important factor for 3/4 of them, so your cup theory is bogus.

In the NHL, stanley cups DO mean everything. That is what these guys are playing for. Not the experience, or the money (most of the time), but the cup.
Also, Lidstrom may not have been the most important factor, but he was undoubtably an important factor in all of the cup wins. He is one of, if not the best defenseman in the NHL.
You can't say the wings aren't one of the best in the NHL.
and No, Stanley cups do NOT mean everything. As I said before, how many players are out there with multiple stanley cup rings, that will NEVER see the hall of fame? You think people remember some goon who won a bunch of cups, hell no!
Ovechkin earned his spot into the hall of fame, in just his 3rd season. It took Lidstrom 15 years to earn that spot.
And i think its easy to say it "took lidstrom 15 years to get into the hall of fame" because he has always been behind Yzerman. He wasn't the captain till a few years ago.
Now given, everyone will remember ovechkin, but that doesn't mean cups aren't everything. Thats what ovechkin is playing for, the cup.
So no, Ovy isn't playing for a cup right now. Maybe in another season. Regardless of position, there is NO comparison. Ovechkin is number 1 all the way. Can't deny the facts.
