Aside from learning combos and learning to count frames (as in know each character's recovery times etc) - which takes ages to learn btw :(...
The only other real advise really is to learn to fake/trick your opponent. If you watch a lot of vid's and players they will spam moves to try to 'psyche' out the other player; try to be as unpredictable as possible.
