I don't give a toss about Francis Bacon or where he comes from,I just felt the need to correct somebody who was trying to claim he was Irish. People might have read that and gone on to think he was Irish for the rest of their lives,I was doing those people a favour.

By your logic John McCain was Panamanian because he was born in Panama (you see? I can bring the US Election into everything!)? But a more sensible example would be this: do you consider Joanna Lumley, Julie Christie, Vivien Leigh, Cliff Richard and Salman Rushdie to be Indian because they were born in India and spent their early life there? Or how about Bruce Willis and John McEnroe to be German because they were born in Germany? EH, WELL DO YA?

I understand what your saying. The reason i wrote he was better than Rothko was because of his statement of distaste for the dryness of Rothkos work. I was empathising with him. I can see he was an unusual thinker but to me his themes were abohrant as he makes reference to people having no more worth than animals for the slaughter.

i do belive opinions are totally deserving respect, but i never expected Mr Bacon express so much "short sightness" regarding abstract expressionism.
expecially here regarding one of the giants of world's art Mark Rothko. in each and every painting the duality of this human life is present without discussion. pain cohabits with extasy, darkness with light, earth with heavens and so on as a non-religious Ying Yang. the comment about the Rothko room(s) is, TO ME, foolish insensitive and stupid
