You might as well ask "Why isn't there a universal language?" Sign languages are real languages too. Real languages shift and change over time in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, etc. They aren't the solid structures you might expect. Even if someone did convince every sign-language user on Earth to use just one sign language, the distance between so many different people would eventually cause the one language to fracture into separate ones anyway. Ever heard of Esperanto? Same issue.

That's obviously is not ASL. It has to be BSL or ESL (English Sign language) or possibly DSL (Dutch Sign Language). That was sorta of... interesting way to do ABC in sign language...
I do know that many years ago in America, they used to use two handed ABC, and almost most of those are almost alike to America old ABC Two handed ABCs.
Amazing thing to learn anyways.
Awesome video.
Thanks!

Good question. ... ( 2 months ago by chessgirl64)
Good question. Probably for the same reason that there's no universal spoken language (apart from Esperanto, which was an attempt that was never picked up much). Sign languages, like spoken ones, are created and evolve naturally by people using them (although many of them have had interference from spoken language over the years). For a universal sign language to emerge, there would have to be a lot of communication between deaf people all over the world, but without an interpreter (cont'd.)
(cont'd.) but ... ( 2 months ago by chessgirl64)
(cont'd.) but without an interpreter to render a universal language unecessary. In this situation, a basic communication system (a creole) would form, and that would hopefully evolve into a language. But this situation is unlikely to appear. Still, I think there are other ways a universal language will eventually emerge (through languages coming into contacte and changing each other, until it becomes more homogeneous). (cont'd.)
(cont'd.) If a ... ( 2 months ago by chessgirl64)
(cont'd.) If a universal language does someday exist, I wonder if it will be a signed language. It could be learned by most everyone. Signing is already used as a method of communication that people with learning disabilities can use more of. Also, there is history of signing to communicate between groups. (For example, several Native American tribes communicated between each other with a signed language.)
Sorry, I didn't realize how long this would be and that someone had already answered.
