Let's hope the idea of nuclear deterrence lasts at least through the next century. It's probably impossible to make powerful governments (military wise) like the US to disarm its nuclear stockpile, but at least the idea of having nukes launched against you helps to prevent other nuclear-armed countries from declaring war an one another.
