as far as i'm concerned tow in is cheating, making the drop is not nearly as critical as paddling into it, you watch these guys get towed into the wave and they ain't even making a heavy drop, don't get me wrong I'm not sayin it's easy either.

With all due respect to Laird and all his cohorts, I wanna see the guy ride mavs on a 20 to 25 foot day paddling into it, and we'll see how good he is at that.

thats bullshit ! imagine 30 feet of water rushing behind you ! when you paddle in into pipe etc its nowhere neara s intense as having a mountain of water rushing behind you !..if you get dumped at pipe chances are youll survive ... if you make a wrong move at places like jaws...you could be under for 2 minutes or more...way higher chance of death..what these dudes do is far more intense than any other tpye of surfing at the moment...besides people like laird started of with places like pipeline

ur wrong completally. Jaws breaks into 3 feet of water. If u fall wrong u break ur neck and if u dont break ur neck u get cut up and then infected. Bigwave surfing is hell dangerous but u have a better chance of comming out alive.

There SHOULD be a producer out there; with the idea of this guy Laird, to be a surf champion PI ....remember Tom Selleck? and have the show in Hawaii where Laird lives (I believe) He'd make a good actor.
