Rosenberg on Nonviolent Communication ~ NVC

Uploaded by: PuddleDancercom1
Video Description:
Visionary Leader Sees Hope for World Peace
Marshall B. Rosenberg, Ph.D., author of the internationally acclaimed Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life, and Speak Peace in a World of Conflict, has taken up where Gandhi, King and other past visionary leaders for peace left off.
An internationally renowned peacemaker, Rosenberg's credentials rank him as one of the foremost new leaders for world peace. His visionary communication process, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), is the cornerstone of what global leaders, educators and beyond are identifying as the missing link to the solution we all seek.
Viewed through NVC eyes, all anger and violence - both in the world at large and in our own personal lives - is a counter-productive attempt by people to meet their needs.

Marshall Rosenberg's work provides real hope for healthy, cooperative and reciprocal relationships with each other, whether as individuals, in the home, the neighborhood, the workplace, the community, or the world at large. Its a paradigm shift. But it will have to be taught systematically to everyone, perhaps a K-12 curriculum could be written for schools all over the world. What a difference in one generation it would make.

I read Marshall Rosenberg's NVC and a few of the mini-books from his website and I have to say it really saved me during a low point in my life. I feel as if a void has been filled and can't see my future without this gift.

I first used the NVC tools to be with my ailing mother, who I was caring for. I will be ever grateful for the gift of connection that my mother and I enjoyed before her death. When I simply listened to her (by guessing her feelings and needs) rather than trying to fix her, we were able to get to what was really important and how much we loved and appreciated each other. Thank you NVC.

Violence is ... ( 4 months ago by reidres)
Violence is sometimes a way to get others to listen. If a group cannot get their needs met and is being suffocated by another group that does not appear to be listening, then it may be time to throw manners out the window. I think it is useful to consider that there are as many narratives as there are groups. And that the terms "terrorist" and "gunman" should not be considered to have a connotation any more negative than soldier, airman or supplier of weapons. It is a bad narrative that kills.
What is important ... ( 4 months ago by reidres)
What is important about what Rosenberg and Carter have done is to try to build bridges. Your goal should be a satisfied Palestinian population. Because we have seen that a surpressed Palestinian population is a false cure for your concerns. A satisfied Palestinian population isn't going to be attacking anyone. But don't expect them to be satisfied with less than you or I would be satisfied if we were in their shoes.

The preceding was in response to a post by mfte260, but YouTube didn't put it in the correct place.
On another topic, it would be interesting to know Rosenberg's response to whether he thinks that he could have talked to Saddam and gotten him to be a good person using the NVC strategy. Is he totally against coercion? Or is that just an area that isn't part of his mission? Which is fine, of course.

thoughtful and obvious ideas, thank you. Patience with angry, loud, hatefilled shouts are tricky--takes practice. I have to practice this and also giving a non agressive response after listening and REALLY hearing complaints from someone. Thanks for posting this quiet peaceful technique.

I have worked with Nonviolent Communication for about a year now and it really can work. It is difficult to learn and apply in todays world however, because we are all communicating using judgments and blame and need to use this process desperately to fix our world.

I've revolutionized my communication in large measure thanks to what I've learned from Marshall Rosenberg's teachings. I highly recommend not only this video but also his books. I'm convinced this work can help a person deepen one's insight and increase the joy one brings to one's actions and interactions. It gives me great hope for everyday life and for progress in the world.

I attended a NVC workshop led by Marshall Rosenberg 7 years ago, and I remember him saying that he wished he could change what he called his technique to "Compassionate Communication". Although my efforts to practice NVC in difficult situations have mixed results - primarily because I am not a skilled practioner - I always try to remember the "compassion" part, and that alone helps.

Great video. Dr. Rosenberg clearly shows how listening with empathy to the Palestinian man who called him "Murderer" was powerful and transformative. I also love his example of the "peace talks" which were not likely to lead to peace because the language used was accusatory or judgmental. When Dr. Rosenberg "translated" the attacking words into feelings and needs on both sides, the upset was resolved. I'd like to learn to listen like this to people who are upset and be this kind of peacemaker

Marshall's work has inspired deep lasting change and healing in my personal life. It has also largely contributed to my work as a mediator in juvinal dependency mediations and other conflict resolution. Do not underestimate the power of Marshall's tools, but realise they take time to incorporate into your life as unlearning the old ways will take time. The benfits are beyond your wildest imaginings!
