I think quite a bit of the backlash with the Giants came from 2004 when the Red sox won the world series. I heard more "Yankees sucks" chants then "WS Champs!" I don't get it. Although f2 was right. I caught SO MUCH crap before the game and I am STILL talking smack to this day!

1918 was a retaliation to the "yankees suck" chant which many (not all) red sox fans chant at stadiums around the US even when the Yankees are not playing. Although, now with recent successes by the red sox, you are seeing a similar backlash, with people shouting "boston sucks!" and evil empire jr.
