If you watch o baterista which has won awards for that solo you will here alot more technical things than in this piece inspired from the great buddy rich, i like chris pennie he is a great drummer and great for coheed but not in the league of neil peart, buddy rich, billy cobham etc.

If you are trying to compare Chris Pennie to old classic rock legends you are just being stupid. He thinks outside the normalities of rhythm. I like to think of him as the Picasso of the drumming world, because he has the pure talent to master all of the classic styles yet he chooses to play four rhytms at one time(such as in this clip). And the reason it sounds stupid to some people is because YOU can't comprehend what is being played. P.S. look up Picasso's realistic pieces.

Chris Pennie is good, I liked him in DEP more than he is in Coheed, As much as he is a good drummer overall, He just doesn't fit Coheed as well as Josh did.Josh didn't need a doublebass pedal for anything, Chris does.

Wrong! if you pay attention Chris almost always keeps his left foot on the hi-hat. he's so fast with his right foot that he can make sounds that most people NEED a doublebass to make.

Then how come he needs a doublebass for Welcome Home?

Its one of their ... ( 2 months ago by youngbloodke)
Its one of their most famous songs, because of how long that song can and has been played live with all of the intricacy for the bass pedal many drummers would get tired no matter how long that drummer might practice, but even so josh eppard still played it better.

It might not be that he needs a double bass pedal, its just that 2 bass pedals or 2 bass drums would give the best sound.

And I'm pretty sure that Chris doesn't need the double bass, I mean, from listening to the song, its not like it demands that much from the drums.
Damn hes got a fast ... ( 1 month ago by thedrumking94)
Damn hes got a fast foot. He makes it all sound loud, not like fluttering the foot and some of it sounds ghosted. There's no way this guy really needs a double pedal to play welcome home. no way. But this guy's good, not in the league of neil peart, i agree. Hell, he's not even in the league of Brann Dailor, imo.

his snare drum and hi hat look uncomfortably close to each other. but, to each his own.

Oh man, him vs. Brann Dailor, that's sooo tough... Hard to compare the two actually. Chris Pennie is so much more about "outside the box" type of stuff like odd meter and polyrhythms. Brann Dailor's definitely no slouch either. It's unfair to compare him to neil pert tho, just wait till Chris has spent as much time behind the kit and we'll see

i dont know dude, brann dailor is def the shit but pennie is at the least as fast as brann but with more coplexity to brann's regular 4/4...

brann does more than just 4/4, listen to capillarian crest, there's like a 6/8 to 7/8 switch in there (i think that's what it is, but I'm not great at pickin out time sigs.)
I'm sure you're ... ( 1 month ago by rudeboyjohn)
I'm sure you're right. I'm more familiar with Pennie tho. I've heard a couple Mastodon's Albums which have sick drumming...anyway, they're both monsters for sure.

this guy id def in the league oh neil peart. and all the other guys. hes like the man at playing polyrythms...neil peart DOES play alot of different time signatures but their both definately in the same league...i prefer jo jo mayer, dave weckl, aaron spears, over them for sure anyday

Brann played in a mathcore band Lethargy. You should listen to their songs. His drumming really resembles Chriss Pennies on those tracks.
