Giant Tunnel Connects New York and London

Want to save some money on international communication? A giant telescope like tunnel in New York and London allow people to see each other in real time. NTD's Kaman Pun has the story.
[Kaman Pun, NTD Reporter]:
"I am at the Fulton Ferry Landing by the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. This is a giant transatlantic tunnel that connects New York and London. Now, I will walk through this tunnel and cross the Atlantic. Once I get through the line."
Okay, so this isn't really a tunnel but I can see Londoners on the other side of the Atlantic in real time.
It was the brainchild of the 19th century engineer Alexander St. George, who had long dreamed of being able to see the Brooklyn Bridge from his London home. He tried to drill an underwater tunnel to New York, but failed. But now, his great grandson, Paul, has accomplished his dream.
[Hannah Ashmore, Telectroscope Staff]:
"The artist Paul St. George, it was actually his great grandfather's idea a hundred years ago. So he found the plans, his great grandfather sketched everything out drawn in the plans and this is his 21st century manifestation of what his great grandfather had conceived. The Telectroscope is a project where it looks a little bit like a telescope but it's a way to transmit images through mirrors, through a tunnel, from point to point. So this point is London, this point is New York and it's a big tunnel with the images transmitted by mirrors."
Sounds a bit far-fetched right?
According to an Italian internet provider, which handled the technical side of this project, the Telectroscope is actually a trans-Atlantic broadband network with HD cameras on both ends. So, it's basically a giant webcam.
But whether you believe the story or not, it's really fun communication. People wave their hands, write messages, and come up with all kinds of games to play with each other over a distance of 3000 miles.
[Hannah Ashmore, Telectroscope Staff]:
"Lots of different things. God Save the Queen. We've been playing a lot of tic-tac-toe, international tic-tac-toe which is kind of fun, jump up and down, wave. A lot of people don't believe its real, they think its actors who are hiding out at the back. So they ask you what did you make them do something. They do the wave or wave at them and do fun things. Dance, do the funky chicken"
And what did these people write to their new friends?
[Ryan Kupchik, Brooklyn Local]
"We just wrote what's up?"
"What did they say?"
[Ryan Kupchik, Brooklyn Local]
"They pointed up at the sky."
[Kitty, Brooklyn Local]
"I asked them to come to visit Brooklyn."
[Duncan Hill, London Resident]
"I asked them why they aren't in the pub because it's about two o'clock in the morning there and they are not in the pub so it's an important question to ask to an English person."
"What did they say?"
"Closed."
[Kaman Pun, NTD Reporter]:
"The Telectroscope is open 24 hours a day in London and New York until June 15. So, if you live in either area, bring a whiteboard and a marker, and come try the newest form of instant messaging."
