Une Nuit A Paris (One Night In Paris) by 10cc - 1975

Uploaded by: mcphert1
Video Description:
This song witten by Kevin Godley and Lol Creme is the first song on the 10cc album, "The Original Soundtrack". It is an eight-minute, multi-part 'sound movie' that according to Wikipedia "is thought to have been an influence on Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen". However, I have not found any unambiguous proof of this.
When I first heard it, I was not sure about it, as I was not used to the departure from 10cc's offbeat three-minute pop songs. However it grew on me. Apparently during 'The Original Soundtrack' sessions, Godley and Creme were in one room writing this, and Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart were writing 'I'm Not in Love' in another. Amazing. This first incarnation of 10cc with Godley and Creme to me was special.
I could find very little documented about this track, and would love to know a bit about how it came about etc. I do know that Godley and Creme went to France on holiday before writing it. Heaven knows what happened there!
There is no film clip available, so I put together my own 'sound movie' of this track. This one's for the 10cc fans out there.
Comments are invited.

I've always believed Andrew Lloyd Webber was influenced by this song for his "Phantom of the Opera" theme.

Written during a time that marked the end of the progressive rock era. Imagine a pop/rock music CD of today containing a track like this? Pop music today truly sucks in comparison. Listen to the operatic influence, the harmony and the through-composed form. I miss these great lengthy programmatic 'rock symphonies'.

It's shame that this song enjoys almost no exposure where "Bohemian Rhapsody" is probably one of the most over-played songs in history. This is really so much better.

In response to ronfinefleur, no one exactly knows where Freddie Mercury got the idea for Bohemian Rhapsody for. No one knows the exact meaning either. So you're theory is simply a theory (everyones' thoughts on the source and meaning are) All in all, this is a great song and I have to be in the right mood to listen to it. I feel Bohemian Rhapsody is an epic song with a ton of emotion and is so popular because it breaks down the boundries of many genres and can therefore appeal to many fans.

I hadn't heard this song for years. I didn't even know there was video to go along with it. It's a really great, if relatively unknown, song from one of the best lyrical bands of the past 40 years.

Thank you!!! This brings back some memories for sure. I was listening to this stuff in the 70's instead of disco. You know, there was quite a lot more creativity going on in music scene in those days than people think.

Such an amazing song. I used to play this song on the air when I was a college radio dj in the early 80's -- I would get more calls from people wondering who was singing this. Thanks for posting this!!
